Why do blogs fail ?

Written on October 9, 2007 – 11:29 am | by aditya |

Ever imagined why 80% of blogs on the internet fail to make it big ? I was on the same line today, it was already 23 hours and 50 minutes and I didn’t make a post on my blog all due to the tons of work on head ! My friend, Manoj told me on Gtalk that I haven’t yet made a post today ! Its actually good to hear when you realize that people are waiting for your posts. I then remembered that people like Shoemoney invite guest bloggers to make a post even when they are away for a event for few days, but never keep their blogs idle. Keeping a blog idle and not posting or posting very irregularly makes it dull and dead. Just as a experiment, stop posting for a few days and see how the number of your RSS subscribers drop down instantly.

You need to make posts on a regular basis, so that your readers can know when you will be posting and also to keep them hooked to your blog. Regularly always doesn’t mean daily. You can make posts once in three days, weekly, alternate days or twice or thrice daily. I have tried to keep a frequency of twice daily from past many weeks, until last few days when I just did 1 post both yesterday and today ! I wouldn’t recommend you to pick up a posting frequency you cannot stick to. Most people are over exited when they start a blog, they make many posts a day, but when we return to it after a month, what we see is a dead blog which is not updated even once a week. So to make sure that your excitement doesn’t die down and that you keep posting regularly, pickup a posting frequency which will be best suited for you.

How to maintain the regularity ? Its a tough question, but it is a matter of determination. Like you do your excercise, morning walk, take food etc. make posting on your blog a regular habit. For best results allocate a time for it. The best thing to do will be the keep aside half to one hour in the morning daily for making a post on your blog. And when you wake up, first job must be to update your blog. You can then remain tension free about it the whole day.

Finally, I learnt a great lesson today ! Thanks to manoj. I will be sticking to my blog daily now !

This is so true. In the past, when I’ve missed posting even for a couple of days my traffic goes down.

And I’ve also noticed that even if I post in the evening instead of the morning, I get less comments, as those people probably came by expecting a morning post, and it wasn’t there.

In the process of posting daily or regularly

people also should not forget that less amount of better quality posts are always appreciated than huge posts with no quality :)

Yes this is true. I think sometimes when people don’t get the information that they are seeking for. Also, sometimes people put falls information which can affect the blog quality as well.
