Why should you track clicks and hide your affiliate links ?
Be it blogging or monetizing general websites, promoting affiliate products had been one of the easist and the most efficient methods to monetize. All you have to do is to choose a affiliate product in your niche and get their affiliate link and promote the link, people who click the link are redirected to the affiliate’s sales page and a cookie is stored in his browser. If he buys the particular product within a certain period, you will get commissions. Examples of affiliate products which you can see right now are -
1. Hostgator banner on the top right of this page and also on the sidebar. The actual affiliate link which I get from hostgator is -Here
2. SEOBook Affiliate program which you can see in the sidebar button. The actual URL to it is - Here
3. Text-Link-Ads Affiliate Program button
One important thing which you may notice is that, when you hover your mouse over these affiliate banners, you see some other link, a link like the following -
http://www.adityaspeaks.com/ccount11/click.php?id=xxxx
With some number in place of xxx. You see the number is unique on all the banners. Actually it is a script which creates such URL and hides the actual affiliate URL(s). So when you click on this link -Here You are actually redirected to my affiliate URL which is - Here
Now you might be wanting to ask, why did i do this, Right ? The two main reasons are -
1. Hide the affiliate link from visitors. Most visitors don’t click a link when they know that its an affiliate link.
2. Track which banner is getting how many clicks. Hence i can track very well whats the return i am getting. For example, If a sale is made , i will be able to know exactly where from the visitor went and purchased the product. Whether it is from the top banner or from the sidebar button. Also I can track very well which arrangement gives me maximum number of clicks.
How do I do it ? Its easy like 1 - 2 - 3. You can use the script from PHPJunkYard . Installation instructions are available in the readme file which comes with the script.
My Affiliate Stats
==================
I have not yet monetized my blog to its full potential and i am still experimenting with stuff. According to last month’s stats, i found that there were a total of roughly 100 clicks in the whole month on the top right Hostgator banner and all these clicks resulted in 1 sale. Means a Conversion of 1%. I could make 1 sale which is worth 50$ for every 100 visitors i send to hostgator. Last month my blog had total 4000 unique visits in the whole month and a mere 100 clicks on the banner spot on top right which is equal to 2.5% CTR.
So What we conclude ? For every 100 unique visitors on my blog, 2.5 visitors click on the banner there and out of every 100 clicks on the banner there, I make a 50$ sale. Hence for 1 sale i need 100 clicks on the banner and for that i need 4000 unique visitors. Very bad Actually !!!
But still my motive of this post was that, you should track all the affiliate links which you post on your blogs and sites and track the clicks they get to know how much money you are making from which link.
