Brand TechCrunch - How far a simple blog can go ?

Written on September 14, 2007 – 8:45 am | by aditya |

TechCrunch a popular blog perhaps doesn’t need any introduction. It was started by Michael Arrington on June 11, 2005 , yes 26 months 4 days ago from today, which currenthy monetizes the blog traffic through advertising with a hefty sum of 1,20,000 US$ every month. How ever what 120K USD , Arrington could be sleeping on a 2 million dollar pillow after september 18 when the TechCrunch20 (Oops, now 40) conference will be held in San Francisco on September 17 - 18.

What the conference is all about ? Its all about 39 new generation companies who will pitch their new product innovations and business ideas before a panel of experts for a prize money of 50000$ and and perhaps some will launch new products. The tickets of the event cost 2495$ per seat. Okay so whats special in that. According to the september 12 post on techcrunch, about 900 people are expected to attend the conference. So how much that converts to? Hold on , its just 1.8 million $.

The event is being sponsored by biggies like Sequoia Capital, AOL and Sun Microsystems. How much you guess would the sponsorship cost ? Apart from this Google , AOL and Yahoo are unveiling new products at the conference. I guess the figures Arrington will earn from this event will be a way far more than what the blog has earned till today.

My Hats OFF to Michael Arrington for taking the brand TechCrunch to this level. It shows how far one can take a blog too.
