Top 5 Affordable and Best Link Building Methods

Written on August 28, 2007 – 10:48 am | by aditya |

Links are definitely something which every webmaster needs especially because links affect the rankings of a website in the search engines. Not only that links need to be on relevant sites, with anchor text of your choice and on pages with a high page rank. This is a challenge for every webmaster. Here are some methods which will help you to build good quality links pointing to your websites.

First of all before we learn about building links, we must know what kind of links we need exactly. Well here is a excellent link criteria which when followed causes magic to the site’s search engine rankings -

1.Link should be placed on a relevant site or a relevant page.
2.The site’s domain must be at least 1 year old and must be fully indexed.
3.The page your link is placed must not have more than 15 out going links (links to pages on other domains)
4.Links must have anchor text which we prefer (according to the keywords we are targeting).
5.If possible, the link must be embedded in relevant content.
6.Links are to be acquired through a constant speed.

The criteria are not at all easy to follow. To acquire such links is a very difficult task. Here we will see some methods which have worked well for me for past few years and will work well for you too in the process of collecting good links.

1.Paying bloggers to review your website on their blogs - Perhaps the best method to acquire permanent links which are embedded into sentences according to the anchor text desired by us. What we do in this method is, look for blogs which are of high page rank and good reputation. We email the blog owners asking them to review your site on their blog in return for compensation. There can be two options, either you write the blog post your self (much better and recommended) and add 3 - 5 hyperlinks in the blog post with desired anchor text and linking to your site and its internal pages. Then give him the blog post and let him post it. In certain cases, the blog owner may argue that he will write his own content, let him do so if he demands. You can find good blogs of your niche from blog directories or using technorati. Or alternatively, you can go on webmaster forums and post a thread saying that you want to buy posts from bloggers. A PR2 - PR3 blog can be offered up to 10$ for a post and a PR4 - PR5 can be paid up to 20 - 25$. A PR6 blog can be paid up to 30$ per post and a PR7 blog post may cost up to 50 - 100$. There are some good websites where you can purchase such contextual blog posts though their method of working may be slightly different from that mentioned here. Two of them are http://contextual.v7n.com/ and http://www.reviewme.com/ both work very well. The biggest advantage of this method is that you don’t have to pay a link rent every month. Once paid, the link will be up permanently.

2.Buy Links Directly - This method too works very well, but beware of your budget before trying out. In certain cases, it might be too costly. The working of the method is simple. We figure out sites we should have links from (relevant to our niche) and offer their owners a price for the link. Disadvantage of this method is that, the links you get are not embedded in relevant content, though they may be on relevant pages. This point doesn’t matter much though it is true up to a certain extent. Links are valuable until they are on relevant sites with your keyword targeted anchor text. To know which sites are willing to sell links, you can go to http://www.text-link-ads.com/ or http://www.linkworth.com/. Alternatively, you can browse link sales section of webmaster forums.

3.Link Baiting - This method works wonders, but needs a highly creative mind to think and craft a link bait. A link bait is actually something which attracts links automatically. Think of something, which attracts a lot of people, creates buzz on the internet, as a result people start talking about it at forums, discussing about it on blogs and websites, hence generating tons of links to it. The “Adobe Acrobat Reader” software which is one of the best known link baits ever. Whoever provides PDF files for download on their sites does provide a link to the Acrobat Reader software’s download page; this attracted over 10 million links, giving the page a sweet PR10. (Though the software was not created with an intension to get a PR10, this is a example taken to explain the link bait concept). The topic can’t be explained further, as the discussion will never end. All you have to do is create something on your site, say a tool, software, a joke, or some kind of article which can be of immense interest to everybody. Then popularize it slowly, as your audience grows, more people know about the particular thing, they will talk about it and hence link to it.

4.Submitting to Quality Paid Web Directories - They have worked well in the recent past, all you have to do is to find good paid web directories and submit your site to the relevant category. They usually charge a fee for including a site in their directory which will be a one time payment or a yearly rent in some cases. Be sure not to go on submitting to each and every directory you see. Shortlist a set of good web directories on the internet and submit your site to them, say one on every alternate day so maintain a good link building speed. Many directories offer deep links, which is a added advantage as it gives your sites internal pages good link juice (page rank).

5.Submitting quality articles to few best article directories - Well this is something different from the traditional so called “Article Submission”. What people started doing is hiring article writers and submitters, who write a crap piece of article and submit it to 500 directories using software. This is a wrong method and will not bring good results to you since most article directories will reject you. Instead of doing that, a better approach is to sit yourself and write a 500 - 1000 words article on a extremely interesting topic in your niche and with a good English. If you don’t have enough time then hire a good writer, then submit this article yourself manually to a few good and high quality article directories. You will certainly get approvals in less than a month. Such links will be in content, and with your chosen anchor text. They will provide you some targeted traffic as well as your recognition as an expert in the particular field. Some good article directories where you could submit your articles are - http://www.goarticles.com/, http://ezinearticles.com/ , http://www.articlecity.com, http://www.about.com etc.
The above 5 methods have worked wonders for me over and over in my professional SEO and Link Building career and so should they for you if you well research and do link building for your site giving time and attention to it.

Well said entry. But what about the recent change in google guidelines which says selling paid links is violating google TOS. Then how can we go for paid links and paid blog posts.

Can you suggest the implications involved with it.

Thanks for the post some interesting content there. Submitting your content to somewhere like Digg will help, only when the users link from their blog.

If people enjoy your content it will help your rankings, when they link to you.
